These Star Wars comics are some of the best stuff coming out in the comic book world right now.

They fill in the time between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. Darth Vader has been searching for information about the rebel pilot who blew up the Death Star, he’s also dealing with a team that Palpatine has trained behind his back as possible replacements, and his own secret team of a rouge archeologist and blood thirsty droids. The archeologist, Aphra, is pretty awesome. My undergrad degree is in archeology so it’s always fun to see it represented in media. Plus, a space archeologist in Star Wars? Who works with Darth Vader? Pretty much has favorite character written all over it for me.

Since the old Expanded Universe isn’t canon anymore, these comics and other book series have been filling in what’s not in the movies. There will always be parts of the old EU, now Legends, that I’ll miss but this comic makes the loss a little lighter.

The Darth Vader and the Star Wars comics have kind of run parallel so far but are leading up to a crossover called Vader Down, which, if it is as good as the comics leading up to it, has the potential to knock it out of the park.
